President Chris Smith, acting as chair,
called the meeting to order at 2:55 PM. Chris welcomed all delegates to
the meeting and thanked North York Gators for hosting the meet and providing
MSO with the meeting room.

BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE 1997 MEETING
Club Scoring: Charlie Lane
Club scoring was implemented at the 1998
provincials hosted by Etobicoke. There were 3 categories set up based on
the number of entries.
Large clubs 1 Etobicoke won
Medium 2 Technosport won
Small 3 North York Gators
won
No one complained about club scoring.

Age Determination Date: Geoff Camp
MSC requested that MSO reconsider their
position on the age determination date.
MOTION: GEOFF CAMP / CHARLIE LANE
Be it resolved that MSO adopt an age determination
date the same as other Canadian provinces and MSC, in order to standardize
record tabulation and reduce confusion for swimmers.

The MSO rule states that a person must
be 20 to register with MSO and only registered swimmers are allowed to
compete.
MSC'S REQUEST FOR NAMES: GEOFF CAMP
MSC wants to build a national registration.
MOTION: GEOFF CAMP / LESLEY MASON-WARD
Be it resolved that MSO permit the name,
age and gender of each MSO registered swimmer be forwarded to MSC for their
statistical base. The information will NOT include addresses, and under
NO circumstances is MSC to release any of this information to any other
person or body without explicit release from each individual.

MASTER SWIM SERIES: IAN CHRISTIE
Ian presented his proposal for a series
of swims. This proposal will be included with the 1999 editorial. Technosport
is currently running a successful series in the Ottawa area.

To investigate this concept with a view
to implementing it next year.

MSO WELLNESS / FITNESS DAY: GRANT SINCLAIR
Grant presented his proposal for a Fitness
Day which would include four different sessions.
1) Healthy Eating for Sports and Active
Living - Susan Mah
2) Optimizing Physical Health and Minimizing
Injury - Kate Fletcher
3) Dryland Training, Stretching and Alternatives
to Weight Training - Cliff Barry
4) Stroke Clinic in the Pool - Cliff Barry
The date still has to be set.

Day Proposal.

MSO PIN: ROY SMITH
Roy Smith presented the board with a MSO
pin which he designed. He is offering it for $5.00 which includes shipping
and handling. Fifty cents will go to MSO. An order form will be included
with the 1999 Editorial.

Endorse this design as an official MSO
pin readily available with 50 cents going to MSO.

WORLD POLICE AND FIRE GAMES: DOUG VANDERBY
Doug requested MSO sanction the meet in
Sweden in order that records would be accepted for Ontario records. Geoff
Camp responded that FINA sanctions nothing, the local sanctioning body
sanctions meets. The last event held in Alberta was not sanctioned by Swim
Alberta because not all swimmers were registered with masters swimming.
The World Police and Fire Games will be
held in Stockholm July 16-24, 1999.
PROVINCIAL COMMITTEE: IAN MACDONALD
Ian proposed that a committee should be
set up to coordinate the provincial championship. Over the past 10 years
there have been 3 years when there was no provincial championship meet.
MOTION: IAN MACDONALD / CHARLIE LANE
To form a committee to coordinate and
ensure that a provincial meet is run annually.

NATIONALS
The championship is limited to 850 swimmers
due to pool capacity.
YMCA ASSOCIATED CLUBS: DAVID CASSELS
David Cassels is proposing to set up a
club of affiliated masters Y clubs.
David requested a letter of endorsement
from the board.
TERMINATION OF TERM
Don Hambley and Chris Smith are not seeking
another term. Directors whose terms are up are Lesley Mason-Ward and Pat
Niblett.
Lesley Mason-Ward was nominated by Pat
Niblett, seconded by Chris Smith.
Pat Niblett was nominated by Darlene Brown,
seconded by Geoff Camp.
Ralph Chown was nominated by Pat Niblett,
seconded by Geoff Camp.
Charlie Lane was nominated by Ian MacDonald,
seconded by Darlene Brown.
The four nominated are accepted as directors.
AUDITORS

To appoint the auditors Withey Addison
for 1998/1999.
