CASABLANCA REPORT : Bruce Rogers
Geoff Camp invited Bruce Rogers to attend the meeting as a member of MSO and answer questions about the 1998 Worlds in Morocco (June 19/30, 1998). He clarified the point that he had not received a letter or fax from Brian Turnbull stating MSC's concerns about holding the Worlds in Casablanca.
The FINA Masters Committee met on May 29-31, 1997 in Casablanca. The 1997 Worlds will be held in Casablanca despite the problems. It is a FINA sanctioned meet therefore it must meet FINA's requirements. The official information and entry booklet may be distributed at the Pan Pacific Championship in Hawaii.
FINA sets the schedule: women will start on one day and men will start the next day. It is an eight lane pool. There are time standards for individual events 200 metres and up. There are only mixed relays, no male or female relays. There is a 400 and 800 metre event on the schedule.
The VIII Worlds will be in Munich, Germany July 27 / August 8, 2000.
Bruce Rogers suggested that MSC get its views known to the committee and that MSC should submit its opinion on FINA rules to a FINA rep or get a Master swimmer on the Aquatic Federation of Canada so that its views will be represented at FINA.
