Business arising from last minutes:
PINS: Geoff has received the MSO Pins from Roy Smith which MSO has purchased.
Ethel St. Laurent from Alderwood is selling the pins on behalf of MSO. The price is
$3.00 per pin or 2/$5.00 You can contact Ethel at 1084 Ogden Avenue, Mississauga, L5E 2G6 or 905-278-0608.
PROVINCIALS: The committee would like to extend its appreciation to Tony Aitchison and his hard working organization for all the work put forth for the Provincials. Although the Provincials had to be cancelled due to the inside workers, we feel the hard work done by all should not go unnoticed.
The internet aspect for the meet was well received and used.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Constitution: Mary has nothing to report.
Strategic Planning: Sharon has nothing to report.
Nominations/Past President: Chris unable to attend meeting-nothing to report.
Finance: Darlene reports the Web Master stipends have not been paid. Swim Ontario have received the Insurance monies.
Communications: Ralph has requested that anyone who has any changes to the Handbook to please pass them on to him. We will be using the website to keep the Handbook up to date.
Membership Liasion: The Soggy Goggle award will be presented to Michael Stroud at the Pentathlon Meet in December, 2000.
Marketing: Ann (via Sharon) presented a incentive to increase participation. It is still in the development stages. Ann would like to send a letter regarding Masters to pools and cities where Masters is not running and look at synergies with age group clubs.
Website: The ongoing process- Barrie is working on consolidating links and the meet schedule.
Fitness: Brian reported that the Swim Camp is full and rescheduled for the end of May due to the inside workers strike.
Competition: Charlie reported that he is updating the Meet Sanctioning and the Safety Procedures forms. We need to be clear on rules regarding combined meets of Age Groupers and Masters.
There is a new Meet Management Program free via our Website www.sentex.net/mso.
Rules: Pat reports that a rule from SNC states that a Age Group swimmer cannot swim Masters within the same swim year Sept 1-Aug 31. They could swim exhibition by advising the meet management.
Stats & Records: Lesley reports that she has received a disc from Don Clinton from Nationals. Michael Stroud will be updating the software. System is now going well, up to date except Milton and Burlington. Clubs need to be clear as to the correct abbreviation used. Please advise swimmers to look at their MSO card for this.
Swim Ontario: NCCP Level I is the minimum level required for coaches due to insurance concerns.
Swim Ontario would like to bridge the gap between Masters and Age Groupers. It is possible for 18/19 year olds to swim for a Masters Club. There is a registration form from Swim Ontario which would allow someone to register with Swim Ontario as a non-competitor (for a nominal fee) that gives them insurance coverage and allow them to train with a Masters Club. Once they are 19 and will be turning 20 in the calendar year they can register fully with MSO.
Swim Ontario will be increasing their fees for the 2000-2001 season to make up lost government funding, but at this point in time we do not know the effect it will have on us.
MSC- Pat reports that MSC is looking into possibly changing to the No False Start rule. This is used in the States and some parts of Europe, but all of Canada still has the One False Start rule.
Nationals for the upcoming years are scheduled as follows:
2001- Calgary
2002 -Saskatoon
2003 -Eastern Region- Quebec and Atlantic Region
2004-Central Region- Ontario and Manitoba
Some Provincial Master Organizations allow formation of an "elite" club for Nationals and International meets. Ontario will have the Algonquin club for International meets only.
