several new ideas to Masters swim clubs across the province that would
be interested in fund raising. Ann presented several of the ideas to the
Board and the Board decided to give the letter to Heart & Stroke Foundation.
The City of Toronto has
tentatively declined to participate in a swimmer recognition program. Anne

COMPETITION/ PROVINCIALS: Charlie
Lane
The Master Athlete Games
in Barrie in February 2001 have been cancelled due to lack of registration
in all events.
Charlie sent a copy of all
meet authorizations for all currently sanctioned meets to Swim Ontario
for Insurance purposes.
Charlie is pushing for meet
managers to return meet reports so the Board can have an idea of how many
people swim at competitions.
MSO is having a problem with
Meet Managers allowing unregistered swimmers to swim at meets, which puts
our insurance coverage in jeopardy. The Registrar will send a hard copy
of all currently registered swimmers to all meet managers at least one
week before the meet, as well as an up-to-date set of records.
RULES & OFFICIALS: Pat
Niblett
The meet manager for Provincials
2001 would like to have the possibility of more than one relay of the same
stroke(s), for example more than one free relay, and medley, and mixed
of the different approved distances of 200, 400 or 800m. Therefore Pat
will be bringing a notice of motion to the AGM regarding relays to allow
a variety of distances at provincials at the discretion of the meet manager.
STATISTICS: Lesley Mason-Ward/Patricia
Niblett
Lesley and Pat will be looking
into software for compiling statistics and records that would be compatible
with both machines and only require entering the data once.
SWIM ONTARIO: Claus Koch
MSO received the new insurance
package from Swim Ontario for distribution to the clubs. There was a brief
review of salient points. A previous concern was raised about the coverage
for Masters swimmers who do not train under the controlled conditions such
as certified coaches as prescribed for age group swimmers. Claus Koch to
review insurance package to determine our exposure.
Claus Koch raised the issue
of developing criteria for inducting masters’ swimmers to the Ontario Hall
of Fame. There was general agreement that MSO was not interested in participating
in this program.
NEW BUSINESS:
Leslie Mason-Ward will be
presenting a notice of motion at the AGM to change the timing of the annual
AGM to coincide if possible with Provincials.
Eileen Herberts plans to
bring a motion forward at the AGM to prohibit "NO TIME" entries at provincials.
The Masters Swimming Ontario
Board would like to express their appreciation and gratitude for the work
Sharon Cockerton has done by staying on as president for an extra year.
We wish her well in her future endeavors.
