Hi Fellow Swimmers,
As most of you know, we ran a successful swim camp at Lagunamar on Margarita Island this past January. I’m ready to start organizing for a second run.
This first notice is mostly about gathering info to proceed in the best manner. I’m just trying to establish a comprehensive mailing list and a few preferences. So, please reply with the following info:
- Do you wish to receive updates or do you wish to be removed from future mailings.
- Are there other participants you suggest for inclusion in the mailing list? I would prefer a confirmation e-mail from any such interested parties.
- Do you have a preference for timing? The likely period is Wed, Jan 7 to Wed, Jan 14. That avoids the Christmas vacation crowd which may result in higher rates.
- Do you offer to volunteer any services. E.g. we had 4 volunteer coaches; Nancy Black provided T shirts; Doug Swim-or-Die offered weight training tips: I provided some “Master Mates” basic swim improvement lessons.
- Last year I charged $40 extra per swimmer to support the coaches. It turns out this would not have been necessary. I may add a small charge for incidentals such things as T shirts. Any comments?
- I’m hoping to run an informal “Swim Fit for Mates” program that will offer Master Mates a Swim Improvement program. Would you take advantage of such an opportunity?
- Are you prepared to commit at an early time? If we book as a minimum group of 20 (instead of coming in dribs and drabs) we get one free trip = 5% off per participant. (A larger group would reduce that percentage unless we get to 40 (or more???) via a second group)
Please distribute this memo to others as you see fit and keep me informed about any interest in participating/volunteering.

| We Remember
Beverley Tucker passed away in Collingwood on Friday, April 4, at the age of 73. Beverley swam for several masters teams as she moved from
St. Petersburg, Florida,to South Florida, then to North Carolina, then back to her native Canada. She was currently swimming for the Florida Aquatic Combined Team as well as her Toronto Y Masters team. Beverley represented Canada at the 1952 Summer Olympics, which were held in Helsinki Finland. She was a member of
Canada synchronized swimming team which was a demonstration sport at that Olympics. She consistently placed in the top ten in both
U.S. Masters Swimming and Canadian Masters. Beverley also served on the board of Masters Swimming Ontario for a number of years with her last year on the board as President. Beverley will be remembered for much more than her swimming accomplishments. She loved life and I don’t think she ever met a stranger. She made friends wherever she went. She had a ready laugh and loved to have a good time. She invariably brightened a room whenever she walked in to one. Everyone I have spoken with has a story to tell about her. She was a wife, a mother, a grand-mother, and a wonderful friend. If any of you would like to send a message of condolence to Beverley's family, you can send it to one of her daughters: Wendy and Darrell Thompson and Family, 429 Oborne Pt. Rd., Box 16, Cloyne, ON K0H 1K0
Beverley will be missed by many people!

Dear Masters Representatives:
Here is an update on the latest developments on the Canadian Master Swimming Championships in Quebec City in May 2008.
First of all, we regret that many of your members had difficulty registering for the competition. Several factors contributed to this situation. At first, we used the swim-meet site for registration at the request of Swimming/Natation Canada. This system is not yet perfected and it generated numerous rejections. The fact that we omitted to put a printable form on the site also created some problems. Many of Masters’ swimmers register individually, usually using this type of form.
Please be advised that we have rectified these problems.
A printable version of the form which can be sent by regular mail or by e-mail is now available on the competition Web site at www.cmscq2008.org.
We’d like to take this occasion to announce that Mr. Pierre Lafontaine will be our guest speaker for the Championship Banquet on Saturday, May 17th. The General Director and head coach of Swimming/Natation Canada was keen to accept our invitation to speak to the competition's participants. He will talk about various topics, including the 2008 Olympic swim team that will be freshly selected and the hopes that the selection has generated.
Lastly, we invite you to visit our web site www.cmscq2008.org where you will find additional information, news from the championship and our store of promotional clothing.
We hope this information will help you answer questions from your members.
