Return to Swimming Guidance – Notice to Clubs

June 23, 2020 Notice to All Club Presidents and Club Contacts:

1. Return to Swimming Guidance and Process

As the Province of Ontario moves to Stage 2 reopening, beaches, outdoor and indoor pools are getting set to accept swimmers. Facility owners have begun to book time both for the summer and starting September.

Club are advised to book their pool time and work with facility owners regarding the terms and conditions of their use.

The Return to Swimming Guidance (updated Sept 15, 2020)  is a collaboration with CIMS, Masters Swimming Manitoba and MSO.  It also references to our Open Water Swimming Guidance. All documents, waivers and forms are now available on the COVID-19 Resources Webpage. Please check for changes as the COVID-19 pandemic progresses and new information becomes available.

Clubs are responsible for preparing their Return to Swimming Plan in line with Provincial and local requirements, and in line with this Guidance. How to respond to an outbreak is part of this forward planning.

We need to know which clubs intend to return to swimming this summer. Every club must return the Club Declaration to the MSO Registrar.

There are updated the Liability Waiver to include COVID-19 and has created a new COVID-19 Attestation. Every swimmer and coach going back to the water this summer MUST sign both the waiver and the Attestation. These are required for club staff and volunteers if applicable. The signed forms are to be returned to and retained by the club registrar. All waivers on the website are now updated.

We welcome feedback on the Guidelines. Please check for updates as the pandemic progresses.

We are exploring a “coaches forum” to develop creative approaches for training sessions within the (changing) COVID-19 restriction. If you have coaches interested in contributing or if you can assist technically, please let us know.

2. 2020-2021 Season

The new season will start on September 1, 2020 as usual. The “start up” email will go to Club Presidents in early August. Please make sure that the President, Treasurer and Registrar emails are up to date in the Registration system. Your club can’t launch without these.

An “Early Bird” fee structure has been adopted for 2020-2021:

$6 – September 1 – October 31, 2020

$10 – November 1 – December 31, 2020

$12 effective January 1, 2021.

3. Programs and Meets

We are keen to see the MEGAmetre Tracker start reflecting the return to the water as facilities begin to reopen. Swimmers are welcome to record their metres from backyard pools and open water if they can estimate the distance. Admittedly, no one is quite sure how to record tethered, stationary swimming.

MSO and meet managers are discussing how to offer competition in the new season. At this time we have new, tentative dates for Olympink and MSO Provincials. Stay tuned.
